Sun all year round, beach at the doorstep and palm trees to linger underneath along the coastline, one might say all in place for perfect summer feeling. However one thing was missing! Ice cream was not something big in Dubai until recently when my desperate prayers for Italian Gelato have been heard. At the beach in Dubai Marina, more precisely at The Beach in front of JBR a proper ice cream parlour opened its doors only a few weeks ago: DRI DRI. Located just around the corner of Cheesecake Factory, luckily the crowds are yet to discover this gelato place as lines are still short.
On a rather small space they managed to establish an eatery of friendly and bright interior with some decent pastel colours on the walls. The ice cream counter is the center piece, surrounded by just a few low tables and chairs, complemented by another bunch of tables and chairs outside.
But the big thing about this place is the local production! And by local I mean in-store.The production happens right in the room behind the counter to ensure their gelato is as fresh as possible. Daily freshly produced Italian ice cream, made only of organic produce is the main proposition of DRI DRI. On their webpage they claim to “prepare gelato according to original italian recipes, using the traditional process called mantecazione: the ingredients are mixed and at the same time frozen” and I believe you can taste it in every scoop. I am still to be allowed in to get a peak into the production room, I’ll put up a post once done.
So how is the ice cream? On offer one can find about 10 ice creams and 6 different sorbets, slightly changing day by day. After stopping by a few times over the past weeks, my favourites are clear: Choccolato, Pistacchio and Biscotto. The chocolate gelato is maybe the best I ever had, rich in chocolate flavour, creamy and with the perfect dark brown colour its more than a sweet treat, its chocolate heaven! The same wow-factor goes for Pistacchio. With real pistachio flavour, crunchy pieces mixed into and a creamy texture it its the best of its kind out there! The Biscotto gelato is equally creamy and full of cookie & cream flavour. Having a cup with one of these three along with a scoop of sorbetto, mango for instance, and you are all set!
